How to Gwt Back on the Healthy Wagon

So the month of January seemed to whiz on by and now we are well into February….which makes me wonder- how are you going with your healthy living plans for the year? Don’t worry if things didn’t kick off as well as you had hoped, or if you started off well but have now slipped. It is totally possible to get back on track with your health and wellness goals.

These tips are probably different to what you might expect, but keep an open mind and I assure you that if you follow through, these suggestions will help you to get focused and on the path once again.

What is your big MOFA?

First of all, you need to be really clear with what I call your Big Motivating Factor (or MOFA for short). This is different to a goal, where you say, ‘yeah, I really want to lose 5kg by March’. With your Big MOFA, you go deeper than that. You need to do some inner inquiry.

Say for example you want to lose 5kg. If that is your goal, you then need to ask yourself some questions:

Why is that important to you?
What will losing weight do for you?

And once you answer those questions, keep on going.

What will having (whatever you answered above) do for you?
And what will THAT do you for you?

Eventually you will get to an answer that you just know is your REAL, true reason for wanting to lose weight (or whatever it is you have as your goal). Maybe you want to feel more confident at work, or perhaps you want to spice things up in the bedroom, or you will be a better mum/partner/friend. Whatever it is for you, this is the key! When you know WHY you are wanting to get back on the wagon again, it makes it so much easier to stick to your plan.

Remind yourself of your Big MOFA daily

Once you have your BIG MOFA really clear in your mind, write it down and keep it somewhere that you can see every day. This will help to anchor your desired state to your everyday actions and stop you from falling off the wagon. I like to put my BIG MOFA on my computer screen saver, set it as a reminder a few times a day in my phone, write it on post-it notes in my day planner and by my dresser mirror, so that it remains front and centre of my mind.

Most of us need daily reminders to help us to stick to our big goals- it helps us to stay focussed and to think twice when we might make a decision that might be leading us astray.

Set yourself up for success

My third tip is to then make sure that you set yourself up for success. If you know that having Tim Tams in the cupboard is just going to make sabotaging your efforts inevitable, then give them away and replace them with something that will bring you one step closer to your MOFA rather than further away. Don’t make things harder on yourself than they need be by having temptations all around you.

And because I don’t believe in deprivation, ensure you have plenty of yummy, healthy options available to grab- if you have healthy food in the fridge and cupboard then you will actually eat them!

Other areas you might need to work on could be with your timetable and schedule. If you need to have you husband mind the kids a couple of nights a week so you have time to go to the gym or your favourite yoga class, then make that happen by adding it to both your calendars like another important appointment.

Maybe you need to set time aside on the weekend to prepare some healthy meals for the week ahead, then tell your family of this plan and enlist their help too, so you will be more likely to do this.

I believe strongly in setting yourself up for inevitable success by clearing potential blocks so that they don’t happen in the first place. {Tweet That!}

Be kind to yourself

If you find that you are starting o get off track again, then be kind to yourself out of respect for your body. Remind yourself of why you want to feel amazing and radiant and how good that will feel when you are. Trust that if you do indulge in something that isn’t in alignment with your goals, that it is only temporary know that you can get back on track again pretty quickly.

Don’t try and aim for perfection, aim for what you know will feel GOOD and which will nourish your mind and body because it brings you closer to your magical MOFA.

Nourish your Soul Foods

Lastly, don’t forget to nourish your Soul Foods. These are:

  • Loving Relationships
  • Passion & Purpose
  • Movement
  • Spirituality
  • Self Care

When you actively engage in your Soul Foods, and when they are in balance, then you feel good. When you feel good, you look after yourself properly and without difficulty. So often we turn to food (usually junk food and sugary food) when we are out of alignment, flow and balance, which is usually what happens when one or more of our Soul Foods hasn’t been nourished or has been completely neglected.

We fill the void with food, or use food as a reward system (I have worked so hard today, I deserve this chocolate cake/glass of wine/piece of pizza) which then gets us off track. But when we are feeling satisfied and fulfilled we magically don’t desire the crap and instead really want to focus on feeling good and looking after ourselves. It isn’t easy to keep these Soul Foods in check all the time, but if you are feeling really unhealthy I do encourage you to think about which area of your life is lacking right now and try to put more energy into that to see how you start to feel energetically.

You might like to check out this video I made a while ago which takes you through a really powerful exercise to help you to identify the areas of your life that are out of balance.
