The Best Diet in the World

The Best Diet in the World

Best Diet in the World For people who have been following me for a while, you will know that I don’t actually believe in diets.

It annoys me that the latest fad diet books become best sellers. The latest diet craze in Jakarta is the OCD diet. When I was first told about it by an excited colleague in my office, I could see the logic in the diet. Fasting for half the day is of course going to help burn fat stores. But, is the diet practical?

When I asked my colleague about their success on the plan after the first week following the diet, I was unsurprised to hear they had already failed.

“Maybe I will try again next week! It was a bad week for me to start a new diet!”, they told me.

But that is exactly the thing! These kind of diets will never work. They are too structured, too rigid and not at all easy to follow in everyday real life. Usually any weight that is lost while following the diet, will quickly be regained again as soon as people go back to eating their regular way.

These strict diet plans don’t allow for much error, and they don’t teach people how to change their habits that got them gaining weight in the first place. They don’t explore any of the emotional aspects of weight loss and weight gain, and are too focussed on what you can’t eat than on what you can.

This is why I believe the best diet in the world is actually no diet. <<Tweet that!>>

“So how do I ever Iose this weight?”, I hear you asking.

The thing is, the best diet for you is the one that works best for your unique body. What works for me, won’t necessarily work for you. We each have our own bio-individuality.

All you have to do is to start tuning into your own natural and intuitive eating patterns.

Have you ever seen a wild animal go on a diet? Of course not! Animals know intuitively how much they need to eat and what they need in order to be healthy.

Humans have this ability too- well, we used to in the past. People didn’t need to read diet books to know how to have the healthiest body to function in life.

The problem these days is that we have lost touch with this intuitive side to ourselves. We are heavily influenced by clever marketers who convince us to to eat junk food, fattening and high calorie treats, and disgusting fast foods that are then consumed to excess every day.

Without these influences, it would actually be easy to eat a healthy, nutritious diet and to experience a body that is trim and strong.

I really believe the best diet in the world is one that is as natural and whole as possible. It doesn’t involve eating fried foods, foods high in sugar, anything processed. The difficulty for most people is that these kinds of junk foods are staples in their everyday diet, so giving them up leads to deprivation and denial. People don’t know what to eat when they have to give up the crap that usually predominates.

What if instead of making these processed and unnatural foods the core of the diet, you were to eat loads of fresh vegetables and fruit, raw nuts and seeds, whole grains, lean proteins (particularly those that are plant based), and you could eat as much of these as you wanted at every meal, would you then still feel deprived?

One of the things I love about following a high raw way of eating is that it encourages us to eat foods that are nutritious and healthy. There is no processed crap in the diet of someone who eats high raw.

If for the majority of the time you are to eat real, whole foods, and occasionally indulge in some treat foods that you just can’t resist, you will find that you lose weight, almost magically. That is the key- eating bad foods some of the time, not all of the time. The rest of the time, eat food that was created by nature as it was intended to fuel and nourish you.

It might be difficult at first if you are not used to eating good that nourishes. But after a while, as your taste buds adapt and your body starts to relish all the goodness you are feeding it, you will want junk food less as less. It will become the norm, automatic, for you to choose the healthy option.

Once you also understand why you eat what you do and can deconstruct your cravings, as well as know when you are hungry and when you are full, you will also experience bigger breakthroughs than any diet book can teach you.

Losing weight will be a bonus result of just eating healthy most of the time, with your strong and fit body, increased energy and focussed mind being the real benefactors of following the non-diet way of eating.

  • What do you think? Does this seem easy or hard? What would be the greatest challenge in not following a diet, but just following a healthy eating plan that involves good food and none of the junk? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
