Wellness Seeker Wednesday: Interview with Janti Wignjopranoto

Meet Janti Wignjopranoto, otherwise known through her social media profiles as @alterjiwo! Janti’s delicious raw food and vegan food creations entice me, and her thousands of followers, every day when they appear on her Instagram feed. Janti is a very talented raw vegan chef and an inspirational woman who is the living embodiment of following the healthy, raw vegan lifestyle.

I’ve had the pleasure of having Janti join in one of my Uncooking 101 classes a while back, and while we haven’t yet bumped into each other around the city, I’m suprised we haven’t given the similar healthy living circles that we run in.

I am so pleased to be able to share this Wellness Seeker Wednesday interview with Janti this week.

What made you decide to start following a healthy lifestyle and high raw diet?

After 1.5 years being a vegan, I still felt bloated and started doing detox. Then, after doing a new year’s juice-fast/detox my meal habits changed tremendously towards raw food. Then I decided to change to a permanent healthier lifestyle after I recovered from cervical cancer surgery & further radiotherapy treatment.

 

What do you love most about raw foods?

The freshness, the real taste of the vegetables, and how the raw food diet helps to cleanse my digestive system.

 

What is the question that you get asked the most about the way you eat?

There’s a few! Will that food you have be enough? Won’t you feel hungry or weak? Where do you get your protein from?

 

What are you most proud of, and why?

I am proud that I feel healthier, have glowing skin, and don’t have the need for any facial treatments after I changed my diet to one that is 70/30 between raw and cooked foods.

 

What piece of advice do you have for people who are starting to eat healthier and wanting to eat more raw foods?

  1. Know what your body needs or has a lack of.
  2. Go slowly, step-by-step.
  3. Be mindful of what you put into your mouth.
  4. Keep a food in-take journal.

What has been your biggest challenge in following a high raw diet?

Understanding that less is more with the food I eat.. .and sometimes I worry whether I will be OK, and if I’m getting enough of everything I need.

 

What is your favourite recipe?

Fresh spring rolls with creamy vinaigrette dip

 

What do you do to relax?

Gardening/attending to my organic rooftop garden

 

What are your health and wellness goals for the next 12 months?

To learn more about how the raw food diet can help people with heart disease and cancer – which I plan to do via on-line study with Dr T.C Campbell (as continuing study from the Plant Based Nutrition Module) and Basic Gerson Therapy by the Gerson Institute.

My wellness goals are to implement what I have learned as a raw chef and distribute the knowledge more to those who are interested to step up to being a healthier self.
